December 30th:
[Orange Line]
[Antarctic Peninsula]
[Entering Paradise Bay]
The next morning we went through our usual song and dance: wake up, get some breakfast, grab a seat, and watch the beautiful landscape go by.
We entered Paradise Bay and realized pretty quickly why it was called "Paradise."
Paradise Bay was beautiful, calm and full of icebergs, whales, and penguins!
[Humpback whales]

[Gentoo Penguins]
[Who said penguins can't fly?!]
[Penguins jumping off an iceberg]
[More Gentoo Penguins]
[Breaching humpback whale]
[Cruise ship with the Gonzalez Videla Antarctic Chilean Base]
[Chilean Base]
[See the pink by the rocks?! Penguin colony!]
We left Paradise Bay and headed northeast through the Gerlache Strait.
While we were in Paradise Bay, the ice had moved in so we had to be very careful navigating through the flow.
[Penguin Colony]
During lunch we heard over the loud speakers that there was a group of female Killer Whales off the Starboard side. We ran over and watch as the Killer Whales thrashed, splashed, and jumped out of the water. Turns out they were eating lunch too! After the females had their meal the male, who was staying away from the group, breached!

After watching the Killer Whales for a while, we headed into Charlotte Bay.
[Calving iceberg]
[The bay was full of HUGE icebergs!]
[Yes, it was cold!]
[Humpback whale]

After exploring Charlotte Bay, we left the mainland Antarctic behind and headed northeast towards the South Shetland Islands.
That night Josh and I went to the Pinnacle Grill while mom and dad watched Theo. We had lobster and filet mignon (surf and turf!) with a side of mashed potatoes and asparagus. It was all delicious and it was so nice to have a date night!
