December 20th:
The next morning we arrived at the beautiful Isla Grande de Chiloé. We took some pictures from the Zaandam before heading to the MainStage to pick up our stickers for our "UNESCO Churches of Chiloé" tour.

[Iglesia de San Francisco - we will visit this UNESCO church during our tour]
We took a tender to the island where we met up with our tour guide. We all jumped on the bus and headed south to Necron to see the first of four UNESCO Churches: Nuestra Señora de Gracia de Nercon. This church was built in 1890 and is constructed of wood.

After exploring the church, we headed to Castro so we could see the Iglesia de San Francisco. On they way there we stopped and took pictures of some of Chiloé's famous palifitos.
We arrived in Castro and our tour guide gave us a few minutes to explore the church and take pictures of its unique exterior.

Our bus came and picked us up and we headed north to Dalcahue to catch a ferry to the Island of Quinchao. While on the island we visited the city of Achao, its church, and a small museum.
This church, like the others, is made of wood and looks like an upside-down boat.
[Iglesia de Achao]
We left the church and walked through a small museum on our way to the shore where there was a small market.
We met up with our tour group at La Nave where we had a small snack (empanadas and ceviche). A group of locals sang traditional songs and danced for us.
[This guy was Josh's favorite because he was playing a jaw bone!]
After our snack, we left Achao and took the ferry back to Dalcahue. There we walked around town and saw another UNESCO church.

We then headed back to Castro where we caught a tender back to the Zaandam.
As we were sailing away from the island of Chiloé, we passed by these gorgeous mountains.
It was a teaser of what was to come!
