BFF Outlaw Pacific Northwest Trip - Part VII: Drive Along the Coast

Sunday, September 20th:

Originally we planned on going to the Sea Lion Caves in Florence. But at dinner last night we talked to a few of the locals and they told us to skip the caves and go to Newport instead. While the caves can be super cool, you have to pay to get in there, and you are not guaranteed to see any sea lions.

We skipped the Sea Lion Caves and started driving up the beautiful Oregon coast. By the end of the day we will be in Astoria!

Our first stop was the Heceta Head Lighthouse.

We then went to Thor's Well and the tidepools.

We walked down a short path and then found some wooden stairs which took us to the rocks.

[I was having too much fun showing Alicia the tidepools]

We then found Thor's Well! It is a 20ft deep cave that is full of starfish and other critters!

[Star fish!]

We then headed to Newport. We were told the sea lions would most likely be at the Newport Historic Bayfront, so we started there!

[Wyland!]

We heard the sea lions right when we got out of the car!

Well, there they are! They are so loud and they smell SOOO BAD.

[I was literally dry heaving at one point]

[Yaquina Bay Bridge]

[Jetty covered with more sea lions]

[Alicia wanted to hug a sea lion, I said absolutely not, so we compromised]

We left the stinky boys behind and continued walking along the bay front. We were hungry and wanted to eat some brunch but it was too stinky at the bay front.

So, we headed away from the bay front and found a cute restaurant called La Maison. I got the salmon eggs Benedict and Alicia got the eggs Sardou. They were sooooo delicious!
