We met up with our guide, Benny, in Kowloon for our nighttime food tour at 7:00 PM. The tour was supposed to last 3-4 hours, but we told him that we were exhausted, so we were good to speed through a little quicker.
He totally understood and told us that we can do whatever we want (perks of being on a private tour)!
Our first stop was Tai Hing for some goose!
We got a dish with goose cooked two different ways and another dish with pork. They were both delicious! Unfortunately, my stomach was still upset from earlier (remember when I threw up by the Big Buddha?), so a lot of the eating responsibility fell to Luke and our tour guide.
After the goose we went through the Temple Street Night Market. There were a lot of good smelling food and some not so good smelling foods. That's all part of the experience, right?!
Our second stop was the Woosung Street Bazaar. It's an outdoor, circular area that hosts a bunch of different restaurants. The line to get in was long and Benny told us it was a local hot spot! We walked right in and found our table at the Wing Fat Seafood restaurant. Benny ordered some hot water (they don't drink cold water in Hong Kong) and washed our dishes because they had been "sitting out." Oh boy! We are in for a treat!
We ordered pineapple chicken and an oyster omelette. This was by far the freshest and best pineapple chicken I've ever had! The batter on the chicken was just right and everything else was perfectly cooked.
I didn't try the oyster omelette. I'm not an oyster fan and I was worried with my upset stomach that it wouldn't stay down! But Luke had a few bites!
We then ended our food tour at KaiKai Dessert. Again, it was very busy but we got right in with Benny!
This dessert restaurant specializes in cold, sweet soups.
We got three different soups to try and they were all tasty in their own unique way. The orange soup was papaya, which was great, but my favorite was the almond soup with the white balls that were full of a black sesame paste. Seems really strange, but it was delicious!
After our tour, Benny took us to the train station and showed us exactly how to get back to our hotel at the Disney Resort.
We made it!
We landed in Hong Kong at 5:30 AM after a 15.5 hour flight, went on a nine hour private tour of Hong Kong, a two hour food tour, and we finally made it back to our hotel at 9:30 PM. We were exhausted! I can't believe we were able to see so much in just one day! Thanks so much to our amazing tour guides, Ashley and Benny, and also to Luke for bearing with me as I tried to cram so much into one day!
Stay tuned! Tomorrow we are going to Hong Kong Disneyland!
