Day 7: Monday, April 14th
Luke and I had another early morning, but that's what you gotta do when you have places to see and ramen to eat!
We were met outside of the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel by our private driver who drove us to the airport.
Our flight was uneventful and we were met by a driver when we landed in Tokyo. He drove us to our hotel in Ginza where we met up with Ryan!
It was too early to check into our hotel, The B Hotel, so we went on a walk to the Tsukiji fish market, a local Temple, and a Shrine. We will explore the fish market more tomorrow, but I had to stop when I saw a shop selling matcha ice cream!
[Order 66! How appropriate!]
[The first of MANY matcha flavored desserts I will be enjoying in Japan]
We then walked to the Namiyoke Inari Shinto Shrine. This shrine is the unofficial guardian shrine for the local fish market and its traders.
We then walked over to the Tsukiji Hongan-ji Buddhist Temple. Some renovations were underway, but the temple was still very pretty!
We then headed back to our hotel in Ginza where we were able to check into our rooms. BUT there was an issue. We booked a double room for Ryan and Luke that was supposed to have two beds. But when we checked in we learned that "double" means two people, not two beds. Ugh. There's no way Luke and Ryan were going to be able to share a bed, so I asked the front desk if they had any more rooms. It's Spring Break so they were all booked up, as was much of the city. I jumped on my Marriott app and found a hotel that was just down the road. I booked the last available room there and then handed off my room at The B Hotel to Ryan.
[Room 1 at The B Hotel]
[Room 2 at The B Hotel]
Luke and Ryan helped me haul my bags down the street to the AC Hotel Marriott. And would you look at that?! A double room!
I got ready and then we all jumped on the metro and headed to the Tokyo Skytree.
I have to admit, I tried to get reservations at the Kirby Cafe and the Pokemon Cafe and reservations were harder to get there than at 634!
[Tokyo Skytree]
We took the elevator to the Tembo deck which is 350 meters above Tokyo.
It was a bit hazy, but we still got a pretty cool view of the city!
After getting our pictures we headed to 634 for our amazing Teppanyaki!
I booked us the Teppanyaki Nobori dinner which includes Kobe Beef. It was ridiculously expensive, but you gotta have Kobe when you are in Japan!
[Private dinner!]
We met out amazing chef and he explained what he would be making for us.
Course 1: Hors-d'oeuvres Froids - House made caviar assorted
Course 2: Hors-d'oeuvre Chaude - Foie Gras of Flan, Truffle
[Check out that view!]
Course 3: Poisson and Légume - Sauté Titlefish with Citrus
Course 4: Viande - Kobe Beef Loin 150 g or Kobe Beef Tenderlooin 120 g
Have you ever had meat that melts in your mouth?! Our Chef cooked our Kobe perfectly and I am forever ruined!
Course 5: Riz - Garlic Rice, Pickles, and Miso-Soup
Course 6: Dessert - Matcha Fondant, Yuzu Sorbet, Almond Tuile
Course 7: Mignardises - Petite four, various small desserts (not pictured)
I have to tell you that this was one of the best meals I've ever had and I've eaten at Michelin Three Star restaurants! If you have the chance to indulge just do it!
After dinner we headed back to our hotels.
I love that Japan provides PJs at their hotels...
... Even if they are a little short!
