Me the 5

Hi. My name is Courtney and I am the most average person you will ever meet.

It's true. There is nothing special or exceptional about me.

Looks? A generous 5. Personality? It's there. Talents? Um... I'll get back to you. Intelligence? Medium. Fun? Sometimes. Extrovert or Introvert? Both. Neither. It depends on the situation. Life? Just fine. Athletic? Nah. I can't even touch my toes.

Let's dive deeper.

I'm not pretty. I'm not hideous. I'm not physically fit. I'm not obese. I'm definitely not thin or skinny. I don't have a nice body. I don't have "natural beauty," which is why I don't wear makeup. I've only had three boyfriends (unless you count the one in 3rd grade). I dated one for a month (high school), one for three months (college), and Josh for 3 years. Minus these three guys, I've never had a guy have a crush on me or pursue me in anyway. [The guy that dated me for three months... he told me that the only reason he dated me was because my other two roommates rejected him first. I was a nice backup. And then he cheated. Should we even count him?] The only guy that has ever told me I was beautiful is Josh. Plus, it's gets pointed out to me at work. When did telling the Office Manager that she should "stop eating because you've gained weight" become an acceptable thing to say? Trust me. I know. I look at myself in the mirror everyday. I know when I gain a single ounce. I know what I look like. Big beaver teeth, small jaw, big nose. I'm a 5.

I can be nice. I can be mean. I have a Type A Personality. I care about my friends and family, but people don't consider me generous. I'm just there. I'm highly sensitive. I'm a people pleaser and a perfectionist. I can be fun or I can find fun things to do. But people don't seek me out because they know it's always a good time when I'm around. I've been called an extrovert and an introvert. I've been called sassy and I'm a self-proclaimed nerd. I love Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter. My personality is a 5.

When I was in High School I remember going to a church activity with my fellow young women where we had to tell everyone what our talents were. Most of the girls could name multiple talents. Basketball, gymnastics, cheer leading, good student, natural leader, etc. When it was my turn I struggled. "Um, I'm smart. I guess." I did get good grades in HS (if you can call a 4.0 "good grades") while taking AP classes. But of course, the other girls didn't agree with me. We struggled to come up with a talent. Then finally someone said I was a "good listener." So, I'm good at sitting still, looking at you, and occasionally nodding my head. Sweet. *high-five*

I'm not that smart. I can read. I'm informed about what is going on in the world. I'm not a very good writer. I keep getting told that I'm "uneducated" and that I don't "know nuffin' about anything."

*nodding along*

Okay, I'm a 5.

I'm good at my job. But my job is easy.

Scan, upload, file, scan, upload, file...

The hardest part of my job is keeping my temper in check and not letting them see me cry.

I'm not athletic. I like to work out because it makes me feel good. I'm not a good runner. I'm a strong swimmer. I can ride a bike. I have no upper body strength. I struggle with pushups. I have no balance, coordination, or flexibility. The hardest part about Insanity for me is the stretching. My calf are pretty nice. I'm a 5.

Nothing about me stands out. When people describe me they don't use very personal adjectives. "Do you remember my friend Courtney? You know... tall, brown hair... with um, eyes."

Yep that's me.

Me the 5.

Court...dont' know what mood this is coming from..but all the things you named does not matter because their is only 1 courtney. I think you are one of a kind. It's so nice and refreshing that you aren't like everyone else, trying to look and act the way everyone thinks is cool. You are a genuine friend. I personally think your a 10.
with that said I know you are half kidding half serious. Just wanted to shout out my love for you!

You are anything but average. Maybe what you view as your average-ness is really what makes you so unique. I sure describe you a lot differently as one of my favorite people, tall, brown hair, hilarious, entertaining, and super great. Love you, Court!

Ummmm....I love reading your blog but I have to say, I COMPLETELY disagree with this post! 1st LOOKS--You are a HIGH tootin 10!!! Did you not look at ANY of your wedding pictures? SERIOUSLY girl! YOU ARE A 10!!! Any of those wedding pictures could be on the cover of ANY magazine! GORGEOUS!!

Ok, next, personality 10!! I don't remember anything specific you've ever said, but I have lots of memories of laughing with you--and that laugh alone gets a 10!!

Intelligence--despite this post you are a 10. "If you call a 4.0 "good grades." Hello? You do realize you can't go above a 4.0 right? So obviously you can do more than just read.

Talents--10. For one, I am a faithful reader of your blog! You are a great blogger! No typos, you keep it interesting, and you're fun! Just look back at this blog and see all of your adventures!

Courtney, I seriously could go on and on, but trust me when I say you are a solid 10! And I don't know anything about Josh, but I think he is a 10 for picking YOU!!

Hi Courtney, I had to respond to this b/c I am someone who never knew you very well but we hung out a few times or in the same group at "The Riv" and here I am still reading your blog & loving hearing what's going on in your life. I have thought a few times while reading that you are smart & good with money & that I wish I was more like that. I remember I always thought you were fun & still think that now. I think we're all a 5 in some ways & in other ways we're all 10's. It just depends. But anyways, just wanted you to know that I think you're great & I hope you keep this blog up b/c I enjoy reading it. I don't read too many blogs anymore b/c life hasn't gotten busy but I've still enjoyed reading yours!

I personally give you high marks on all of the above, but since those have been well covered by your other awesome friends, I just want to add that you get the highest marks in being an awesome friend. You were there for me in school when lots of others weren't and you are still one of my dearest held friends even though I haven't seen you in years. You were always present and interested in what was going on and you didn't stand for unnecessary negativity from me (which I excel at). Not to mention, one of the single best travel partners I could ever imagine.

Courtney, you're amazingly awesome! You're beautiful, even when you're in sweats :) I love that you're a nerd and at least you're up to date with current events. I think its healthy to be honest with yourself sometimes, helps keep you grounded. I wasn't honest with myself in college, when I look back, all I see if a pathetic, desperate girl looking for love. I didn't date in college either and if so, I was very dramatic and blew it out of proportion just to feel better about myself. The other night, Evan and I were talking and we both said we were average, that we didn't have any talents and that there was nothing we were exceptionally good at, and it stinks to be average, plus makes it harder to know what to do with your life. You're so easy going and great to be around, I was always jealous of how you were just one of the guys when you guys hung out with guys (I'm sure you may not have been happy being in that position, maybe) but I always felt like an outsider whenever you guys hung out with Adam, Nate and Drew, etc. You're a loyal friend and you know how to party and have fun when you're with the right people, one of the hardest things is being with those people whether its distance or making new friends.

I can't read this and NOT comment. Your blog title is perfect: Here I am. Take me or leave me, this is how I feel. I love your honesty.

I love you, Court! God loves you! I think your love for Brodee is adorable and it looks like he loves you, too. I hope you can recognize the goodness in you and your ability to love others. I think that's the most important thing in life. I sure have felt your love by your reading and commenting on my blog. :)
