Trip to Utah and California: Part II - Balboa & CA Adventure

Sunday, May 27th:

After doing some last minute laundry, we all headed to the airport in SLC. The flight wasn't full so Luke, Andie, and Porter were able to get a whole row to themselves and mom, Theo, and I were able to get our own row too (dad sat in the exit row again). It was perfect!

[All ready to go to Disneyland!]

The short flight went great! We arrived in beautiful Orange County, got a mini van (thanks Ryan), and headed to Balboa Island. We arrived at our Airbnb to find that the place had not been cleaned. Bummer. Mom called the guy and he rushed over (with his wife) and cleaned the space while we went to get dinner.

[My room had two single beds in it. Since we only had one pack n play for the first night, Theo slept in the other single bed. I made sure he was surrounded by pillows and if he rolled (he only rolls one way) he would roll towards the wall. Don't worry, he was fine 👍🏻]

Monday, May 28th: Memorial Day

My best friend, Emily, and her family were supposed to come and visit us today on the island (they were in San Diego for a family reunion), but her kids got sick. I would have LOVED to see Emily, Kenny, and their kids (two of who I have not met), but I understand not wanting to get everyone sick 😷 🤒 🤧

We decided to stay on the Island for Memorial Day. In the morning we all went on a walk around Balboa Island! I love this place and I am so excited to spend TWO weeks here!

[Matching sunglasses!]

We got fresh strawberries and Ghirardelli dipped strawberries... YUM!

[Cool kid! Theo kept his sunglasses on during the entire walk]

Later that day we went to a beach that was down the street from our place on the Little Island.

[Beach baby!]

[Porter had mixed feelings about the sand... or maybe he just didn't like the cold water]

[Theo stayed in his stroller but I put PLENTY of sunscreen on his legs]

After playing in the sand we went to get some Balboa Bars (chocolate or vanilla ice-cream dipped in chocolate AND covered with nuts or Oreos or M&Ms or anything you want!) and Balboa Cheesecake (cheesecake dipped in chocolate).

[I gave Theo a little bit of the chocolate ice-cream. I think he liked it!]

Tuesday, May 29th:

Luke, Andie, and I left the kids with Papa and Grandma so we could have a kid-free day at CA Adventure!

We headed out early and got to the park before it opened. While Andie and I went to get in line at Tower of Terror (aka Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission Breakout), Luke ran over and got us fast passes for Radiator Springs. Oh yeah! We know how to work the system!

[Tower of Terror (aka Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission Breakout)]

I was really sad that they decided to re-do my favorite ride at CA Adventure, but I had heard that Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission Breakout was "just as good" as Tower of Terror, so I decided to give it a shot. And I'm glad I did! I was screaming and laughing the ENTIRE ride!

[Andie in line to get us free waters!]

[Paradise Pier is closed while they turn it into "Pixar Pier" so my fourth favorite CA Adventure ride (CA Screaming) wasn't open... bummer]

[Cars Land]

[Radiator Springs]

[Tower of Terror (aka Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission Breakout) AGAIN!]

We spent most of the day on "big kid" rides (Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission Breakout, Soarin', and Radiator Springs), but Andie convinced us to try a "kid ride" and I'm so glad we did! Luigi's Rollickin' Roadsters was so cute! The cars all line up and dance. It's so cute and I loved it!

For lunch we left the park and walked to Earl of Sandwich in Downtown Disney. I got a delicious sandwich with a frozen lemonade. It was a warm day and my throat still hurt from my terrible allergies, so a frozen lemonade was perfect!

After lunch we walked back to CA Adventure. On our way to ride Luigi's Rollickin' Roadsters again, we spotted Daisy! Andie adores her!

[Luigi's Rollickin' Roadsters AGAIN!]

[Aren't they so cute?!]

We then got a carb loaded dinner (Mac-n-cheese in a sourdough bread bowl for Luke and clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl for me) before headed back to Cars Land to watch the lights turn on.

[I never said Luke and I were good dancers... Andie made up for it though!]

We hit Radiator Springs one more time before lining up to watch the Light Parade.

Thanks Grandma and Papa for watching the kids for us! We had so much fun!

Wednesday, May 30th:

According to my phone we walked 19,732 steps at CA Adventure so we decided to have a chill day on Wednesday. We met up with Myrna, mom's sister, and had lunch at BJs.

Even though Porter knocked Andie's beautiful gluten-free pizza onto the floor (don't worry, they made her another one), we still had a nice time chatting with Myrna. AND we got pizookies!

[The boys LOVED going on walks around the island in the morning with mom]

That night we went to Wahoos Fish Tacos for dinner at Fashion Island! They have the BEST fish tacos! Another Southern CA classic!
