Week Eleven of "Quarantine"

If you have been following my blog you know we have been closely watching the birds nesting right outside our window. I've learned a lot about robins over the last few weeks:

-The blue eggs hatch about 12-14 days after they are laid.
-Baby robins leave the nest when they are ~13 days old (this is called "fledging")
-Babies leave the nest before they can fly.
-They will stay in the area for the next 10-15 days learning how to fly and building muscles. During this time their dad's still feed them.

Our birds built their nest on April 18th, we first noticed eggs on April 28th, the eggs hatched on May 8th, and the first baby left the nest on May 18th (the second one left on the 20th, and the third left on the 21st).

May 18th:

I checked on the baby robins when I first got up and noticed one of the babies was missing! We went looking for him and found him on the side of the house. We tried to catch him, so we could put him back in the nest, but anytime we got too close his parents would dive-bomb us and the baby bird would hop away. I did a little research and found out that baby robins leave the nest before they know how to fly and we should not be surprised to see them hopping around our yard for the next 10 days while they build muscles and learn how to fly! Thanks Google!

On Monday, Josh went back to work! We loved having him home for the last two weeks. We are very excited that he will be the Chief on this job and that the job is just down the road!

[So handsome!]

May 19th:

On Tuesday I checked in on #2 and #3 and they were still in the nest! Why would they leave when dad keeps feeding them?!

May 20th:

On Wednesday I woke up to find that #2 had left the nest. I saw him hoping along the fence, but by the time I got my camera out he had jumped off the fence and into the neighbors yard! I kept a close eye on #3 just in case he decided to jump too.

He decided to be brave and test the waters, but after about 30 minutes of standing on the fence post, #3 got back in the nest.

I went to check on him a few hours later and he was gone!

I found him sitting on the fence in our yard. Isn't he the cutest?!

Thus ends our bird-watching journey! It was fun to see the babies grow and leave the nest, but I'm ready for the nest to be gone and all the poop to be washed off our fence.

May 21st:

Theo's OT brought him some fun toys! I was a little worried that Theo wouldn't like them, but he reached for the barn immediately after I put it in front of him. I think this shows that his vision is getting better AND his confidence is growing. I'm so proud of him!

May 22nd:

I decided that today I was going to run a 15K (9.3 miles) on my treadmill.

*Yes, I know it doesn't "really count" since it was on a treadmill and running on a treadmill is "so much easier" than running outside. Yep, got it. Thanks for being so supportive and encouraging 👍🏻 *

[Breakfast of champions: eggs, whole wheat crackers, turkey, and dairy free yogurt]

I usually work out at 10:00 AM (when Theo goes down for a nap), but that day I had to push my workout back a few hours. My body rebelled a little bit and I had a stitch in my side for the first hour and anytime I tried to run faster, but I made it!

The reason I had to start my run so late was because Theo's Toddler School teacher, Ms. Kelly, stopped by in the morning. She brought us some of Theo's artwork and a headrest we had ordered for his Amtryke. This amazing trike has been sitting in our basement since December while we've been waiting for the headrest to come. It FINALLY arrives and it's the WRONG ONE! UGH!

[It was a pretty good day! I got 300% of my daily calorie goal 💪]

Theo broke his favorite toy. We tried to fix it, but it just wasn't the same! 😩🥺

Josh got some fun things for our yard:

May 23rd:

We had a "Severe Weather Day" on Saturday. It was super muggy and warm, which is prime thunderstorm weather.

We were watching the storm come in from the west and I decided that the cloud looked a little suspicious.

After I got my Marco Polo the tornado sirens went off and it started POURING rain! Turns out the suspicious cloud I was watching was a rain wrapped EF 0 tornado. It dropped a ton of rain, hail, and downed some power lines, but no one was hurt.

[Theo REALLY likes his new toys]

May 24th:

Happy 6th Wedding Anniversary! Together for 9 years and married for 6! I bought Josh stands for his records and some beard oil. He got me iron (the traditional 6 year gift) trays for my nightstand!

Josh made us steak and potatoes for dinner and we had a nice quite day at home with Theo.

Love you, Josh! Thanks for putting up with me for so long!

We tried to get a picture, but we aren't very good at selfies!

Theo had a super busy week (as always). Along with his six tele-therapy sessions, we also had a phone call visit with his GI Specialist. She is happy that he is gaining weight (37 lbs and 39 inches long) and is tolerating his feeds so well. But she wants us to decrease his Milk of Magnesia dose from 30 to 15 mls. Theo has thrown up four times since we made the change. We are trying to find the balance between "being backed up and throwing up every day" and "having 8-12 blow out diapers every morning." It's a delicate process and we gotta find that balance. Who knew that my son's BMs were going to be such a dominate focus in my life?
