Epic Fall Road Trip - Part II: Wisconsin

Friday, October 21st:

While I finished packing, Josh went outside to skirt the trailer in preparation for the cooler winter. While he was out there he had a visitor!

After finishing up with the trailer, Josh and I left Marseilles and headed north towards Superior, Wisconsin. During the drive we listened to Harry Potter, watched the leaves change and ate lunch at Fuddruckers (complete with Wisconsin cheese curds)!

Saturday, October 22nd:

We got up early and headed to Floodwood, Minnesota, to witness one of Josh's High School friends, Aaron, get married. We had to arrive a few hours early because Josh was an usher and had to pass out mints and bubbles.

The wedding took place at a cute little chapel and the ceremony was lovely.

After the wedding we went next door to have some food and watch the happy couple cut the cupcake.

[A Packers fan married a Vikings fan... Eek!]

That night we went to one of our favorite restaurants in Duluth: Clyde Iron Works! They have the best mac-n-cheese and desserts in the area. Delicious!

After that we met up with Josh's family and friends at a local bar. It's always fun when we hang out!

Sunday, October 23rd - Wednesday, October 26th:

Over the next few days I actually started to get a little sad. When we left Illinois the trees had barely started changing. As we drove north, we witnessed trees changing a little bit. But by the time we got to northern Wisconsin, most of the trees had lost their leaves and looked dead. I felt like I had planned this trip around the idea that we would be in New England during the Fall but the more and more I looked around the more I realized that we may have missed it.

On Sunday, Josh and I went for a drive around Duluth looking for pretty trees. We were able to find a few that still had their leaves.

After exploring Duluth, we drove up the North Shore towards Two Harbors, MN.

We didn't have as much luck with the trees along the North Shore, but the clouds over Lake Superior provided us with a pretty view.

We turned around once we hit Two Harbors and headed back towards Duluth. We had some time to kill so we drove to the top of Enger Tower Park. This park has a small tower, trees, and an overlook where you can see the bay and Superior, Wisconsin.

That night we met up with Josh's dad, George, and step-mom, Julie, at the Black Bear Casino in Minnesota for a delicious dinner. It was so fun to catch up with them and we look forward to seeing them again on Christmas Eve.

During the next few days we drove to Ashland with Jessi and Ally, had homemade soup and corn bread (thanks for cooking Grandma) at Grandma and Grandpas, ate at the Thirsty Pagan Brewing Company, and spent time at Jessi and Ally's house (thanks for cooking Ally)!

I had read online that the Apostle Islands were very pretty and only an hour from Superior, so Josh and I decided to try our luck and drove up Scenic Hwy 13 to Bayfield, Wisconsin. I'm so glad we did! The trees and the shoreline where very pretty!

It was cold so we decided to drive to Ashland to get some delicious hot chocolate at the Black Cat Coffeehouse. YUM! Just what I needed!

After spending a few days in the Superior area with Josh's family and friends, it was time for us to head East and continue our Epic Fall Road Trip! Stay tuned!
