CA Reunion - Part VI: Papa's Birthday Party and The Move to Carlsbad

Saturday, June 10th:

We spent all day at the Van Dusen's house soaking in our final full day in San Clemente. That evening we headed to the Norman P Murray Community Center for Papa the Great's 90th birthday party. The room was decorated with red, white, and blue decorations and pictures of Papa from his childhood.

Once all 130 people had taken their seats, Uncle Walt told us the story of Papa's life. We sang songs, played games, laughed, and cried. It was so well done!

The party was so fun! Almost all of Papa's descendants were there - over 130 people! Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to put this all together. It was lovely!

Sunday, June 11th:

Ryan, Kayleen, Teagan, Cason, and Hayden flew back to Ohio while Tyson, Missy, Brady, Dane, Cole, Ty, and Brodee began the long drive back to Ohio.

Missy and Tyson decided to take the southern route (I-40) home. You know who lives off I-40 now?! Brodee, Sara, and Mondo! That's where Kingman, AZ is! Thank you so much Missy and Tyson for taking Brodee home. I'm so glad we were able to make it all work out!

Josh flew home and arrived to quite a mess. The timer was set to water the plants twice a day, but it was set to water for too long! Some of the plants don't need that much water and they are probably not going to make it. But there are others that may be fine. We will see 😭😭

AAANNNNDDD these stupid birds have been trying to nest above our door for a couple of years now. We bought spikes and put them above our door and we bought two bird houses that we've put on our fences. But these birds are determined! While we were gone they got to work building their nest. They removed our spikes and made a huge mess. UGH!

Those of us that were left helped clean up the Van Dusen's house, packed up the two cars, and headed to our new home in Carlsbad. It was a cute three bedroom, 2.5 bath townhome close too the beach. We set up a little bed for Theo in the family room while mom and dad took the master, Luke and Andie and their kids took the room with a bunk bed, and I got a small room with a queen bed. I was so happy since Josh and I had been sleeping on an air mattress all week at the Van Dusen's house and my neck was killing me!

That night we went to Bluewater Grill! I got the King crab and it was worth every penny!

Of course, Theo caught a cold and started coughing a lot. We increased his respiratory therapy from twice a day to five times a day and I started monitoring his oxygen levels. Hopefully we can keep him out of the hospital.
